Grand Theft Auto VI releases 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Here is everything an Indian buyer needs to know: prices, pre-order bonuses, preload timing, and the fine print on physical copies.
Countdown to midnight IST, 19 November 2026
Pricing reported by Indian gaming outlets, October 2026. No PC release date has been announced — PC players are waiting on Rockstar’s word, the same way GTA V went console-first in 2013 and reached PC in 2015.
Standard includes the full story and the entire open world of Leonida and Vice City — nothing story-related sits behind the Ultimate Edition paywall. Ultimate adds premium vehicles, weapons and apparel that unlock across Jason and Lucia’s journey, plus exclusive in-game shops and cosmetics. For most players, Standard + the pre-order bonus is the value pick; Ultimate is for players who want the extra toys from day one. See the full Standard vs Ultimate breakdown.
GTA VI was announced in December 2023 for a 2025 launch. Then it slipped to 26 May 2026. Then it slipped again — to 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the date this page counts down to.
Rockstar’s head of publishing, Jennifer Kolbe, personally phoned Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick both times. On the second call, his reaction was: “You’re kidding. Please tell me you’re kidding.”
The reason was scope, not a single crisis. Per head of development Phil Hooker, it was “a lot of moving parts that didn’t come together as fast as hoped” — the team felt the extra time was necessary to deliver the full ambition, and that hitting the old date would have meant shipping a lesser game.
The scale shows up in the details: when projections for NPC writing and animation turned “frightening,” Rockstar stood up an entire Los Angeles studio of writers, producers and directors who do nothing but create NPCs.
Zelnick, once Kolbe walked him through the reasons, understood — and backed the call publicly. Delaying, he said, is “a wise investment in time and financial resources” if it gets the game to the level of perfection it can reach.
You’ve probably seen the viral claim that GTA VI cost around $1.5 billion — the figure that got compared to the Burj Khalifa. Kolbe denied it directly in the Bloomberg interview.
The real budget is undisclosed. What exists instead is press estimation: Bloomberg suggests the game may have cost more than double the ~$500 million ceiling other publishers try to stay under, and Jason Schreier calls it almost certainly the most expensive game ever made. Those are estimates, not Rockstar numbers — file them accordingly.
The honest take for buyers: the price you pay (₹5,999 / ₹7,499) doesn’t change either way. But the next time someone quotes $1.5 billion as fact, you’ve got the denial on file.
